Mylo was diagnosed with T1 diabetes in April 2022 aged 9. Overnight, his world changed to include finger pricks, injections and eating to a schedule. My happy little guy was thrown into a world we never wanted for him, filled with anxiety & frustration, many tears were shared between us. So many nights I lay awake watching blood sugars fall, waiting to see would they steady and rise, and many nights I lay awake waiting to see if high bloods would come down. In those moments, you'd do anything to take the diagnosis from your child and take it on yourself. When we got the call in July 2023 that his t:slim X2 pump was on its way to us, I cried! A moment I'll never forget! Sitting by the pool on holiday in Malta and telling my family and my sister asks...Will you now be able to sleep again?

Mylo went live on insulin in his pump in September 2023, the first few weeks there was tweaking and changing but once we found those magic numbers...life changed again...only this time in a very positive way! Gone are the 5 injections a day and it is a rare occasion when a finger prick is needed! Mylo eats when he's hungry now, or when something takes his fancy! Control IQ prevents highs and most of the lows. I sleep through most nights now knowing his pump is watching him and doing some of my job while I sleep. Mylo LOVES technology. And the pump has been a massive game changer to his quality of life. He's involved in his own day-to-day decision-making about his diabetes management and empowering him to do this has helped him understand that yes, diabetes is for life, but diabetes doesn't need to take over your life. Control IQ is like having your Mom watching over your blood sugars waiting to take action... I have often gone to offer a correction to find Control IQ has already done it...its a step ahead of me always..and this I will be forever grateful for!
The t:slim X2 with Control IQ is Mylo's first pump. It is without a doubt the most amazing piece of kit we have ever seen. We can't wait to see what the future holds for Tandem and for Mylo's future electronic pancreas!
